Perhaps the most inspiring story that came out of our Founder's first mission trip to Haiti came from this individual with a one inch by one inch hole in his head. Walking home one night from church, this individual was attacked by a group of young men who robbed him, struck him across the head with a stone and left him for dead. After being rushed to a local hospital he slipped into a coma and didn't regain consciousness for several days. Upon regaining consciousness, doctors informed the individual that he needed risky brain surgery in order for him to regain the ability to walk and talk again. This individual told us that he heard God speak to him at this moment telling him to refuse the surgery and that everything will be taken care of. The doctors, upon hearing his refusal, sent him home in a bit of rage telling him to just "go home and die." Although for the first two months after his injury he couldn't walk or talk, he slowly but surely started to recover. When we saw him at one of our day clinics it had been years since his injury and he showed no negative side effects and was surprisingly one of the healthiest patients we saw. This story shows that all it takes is faith and good will for miracles to happen.
